5 out of 5 stars Great kit, Great price   January 6, 2009
The other reviews say it all, except what to do when you want to connect it to another Sony (or probably any make) of TV without a digital or optical audio link out. Without it the TV and DZ260 wont work seemlessly together. I had a Sony KDL32S3000 TV purchased from a local Sony dealer in late 2007 but it only has the analogue audio out.

Calling the local dealer met with 'I dont know', maybe you cant connect them together! Calling Sony got me a definate 'no you cant connect those together sir, even though they are both Bravia systems'

So if like me you have a TV with a HDMI socket but no optical or digital coaxial audio out, just the old analogue (dual phono) sockets the way forward is in the form of a TV ONE 1TAP216 ANALOGUE STEREO AUDIO TO SPDIF CONVERTER - a little box that converts the analogue signal to either coaxial or optical. I got mine from the really helpful people at Keene Electronics (01332 830550).

5 out of 5 stars That's what I call great sound   January 5, 2009
Great product for a good price. I'm really glad I went for this one and I have no complains at all.

It's very nice to go with a Sony TV, as you can take advantage of the BRAVIA sync and have all your stuff controlled by any remote control (TV, Home Theatre and Blu-Ray).

Only bad thing is that it won't play MPGs in the UK version. Wonder why the rest of the world receives the fully operational model....

2 out of 5 stars Problem with fan motor noise   January 5, 2009
I have had to reduce the rating considerably for this otherwise excellent product because of the obtrusive noise (humming) from the fan motor which is very evident in quiet passages of music or just speech.

This is a real shame but to me is a real problem. I returned one unit assuming it was faulty - but the replacement was just the same.

Not sure what to do next but will consult Sony as to whether I can disconnect the fan.

It won't be a problem if you just listen to rock music of watch blockbusters but is a problem if your viewing/listening habits include some serious and subtle stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of kit   January 4, 2009

What a great bargain. Just bought this after reading the other reviews on Amazon, and I have to say I'm very impressed. Easy to set up, great-looking and fantastic sound quality. One thing I've noticed that I haven't seen in any other reviews is that you can turn the player off, then when turning it back on, you can restart the DVD from the stopping place, rather than having to use chapter search or skip through the entire film to locate where you stopped watching. I had this feature on my previous player, and cannot say how much of a boon it is!
Also an excellent delivery from Amazon. I had this on supersaver delivery and was told it probably wouldn't arrive for Christmas - no problem, I thought, as it was still 60 cheaper than Argos. Lo and behold, it turned up on Christmas Eve - the perfect present to myself!

4 out of 5 stars Ball tingling fun!   January 4, 2009

After hooking up all the speakers and finally turning it on I put in the Incredible Hulk to sample it's audio delights and I was blown away before the film even started just watching the trailer for Iron Man!

It felt even better than the cinema to be honest, as the seats vibrated and made my balls tingle with excitement, which has never happened in a cinema before.

Everything is fine with this, especially for the price, although there are some issues I had with it...

- It makes my 32 inch screen look TINY compared to the sound coming from the source, if that makes sense. I feel like I have to upgrade my TV now, which I can't afford to do!

- When I used an optical cord to link up my 360 the sound was out of sync. I don't know if this is to do with the actual wire itself, or the set up, but it means I couldn't use my 360 with surround sound. Also I connected my sky box up with the scart and had the same out of sync problem.

But those are pretty much the only things that niggled me, other than that this is the best purchase I think i've ever made! Such good value for money!
