4 out of 5 stars DAB on the move   June 19, 2008
I don't normally write reviews but after looking at the most recent reviews of this product I had to give my very different experience of this product. I have had DAB radios for many years and this Sony DAB radio is the second portable one I have owned. The first was fine but did not have preset stations which was very annoying and is not a problem with this model. I find the reception is excellent. I live and work in central London and use the radio commuting on the bus and occasionally the train. It is very rare for me to lose reception on either mode of transport. I also ride a motorbike and listen whilst on the move and maintain reception whenever it is available. I therefore don't understand people who say it cannot be used on the move. As with all portable DAB radios I have tried it really struggles for reception in shops but works fine in the office and the home. Overall I think this is an excellent product and well worth the money.

1 out of 5 stars XDR-M1: Putting the C in Rap   December 11, 2007

What can I say? I looked long and hard at the reviews for this and others. The Sony won as it had FM reception. Bad move. I live and work in very good DAB and VHF reception areas. FM is terrible, both on local and distant transmissions. DAB is great if your still and have no intention of moving! So forget portable, that it ain't.
Result: given it away to some to use in their office and will wait till there's something better.

Stay clear is my opinion.

1 out of 5 stars Sony DAB protable radio   July 16, 2007

Very poor product. I expect better from Sony, I have found it basically no use in most locations, although I have other digital radios that work. Should have really sent it back !

1 out of 5 stars Possibly the worst Sony product in the world...   June 14, 2007

Despite normally loving (and owning) many Sony products this one is one I Wish I had not bought. My gripes are as follows:
The reception is awful, it drops signal frequently even when cycling in central London. As for on a train...forget it!

It does not come with a case.

I often have to re-program the Fav's.

All in all, don't buy it. I wish I had returned it to Amazon within the time limits.

4 out of 5 stars Good as a DAB radio   March 27, 2007

I wanted a portable radio with less hiss than you get on FM, and I got it. It has faster station-changing than the 2 other digital radios I have. When you have good reception the sound quality is excellent. Doesn't work on the train when moving above about 30 mph though! Not sure about battery life, but it does come with an AC adaptor.
