Great little machine December 30, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This was bought as a gift for my girlfriends daughter and having seen it in action I want one now!
The unit feels well built and is certainly finished well. The screen tilts and swivels and feels very smooth and robust. The carry case that comes with this unit is also a real bonus - it's pretty decent and there's enough space in there for everything that came with the unit. The unit is even supplied with a car adapter. I don't know what came over Sony as they usually try and sting you 25 for something like that but everything you could possibly want is in the box with this pack.
The screen on this player is very nice indeed. It's bright and sharp and contains a lot of pixels, none of which were stuck on our model. The machine is capable of playing DivX movies, photo cd's and o course music cd's too. The sound is also suprisingly good from the little speakers. It's never going to have much bass as the speaker is probably the size of a 20p piece but for what it is it's fine. The battery is also rated at 6 hours! The battery is about A5 size and thin and it clips onto the bottom of the unit. It's fairly inobtrusive once it's on.
The controls for the player are located along the bottom of the screen to ensure they are always easy to reach no matter what angle you have the screen at. Another great feature is the fact it has two headphone sockets. Now, if you can get the kids to agree on a film to watch you may actually get away with buying just one of these things!
All in all a really great feature packed machine with all the extras you'd need at a good price.
Excellent as you would expect from Sony October 25, 2008 41 out of 41 found this review helpful
I did a fair bit of research before settling on this Sony. I was originally interested in the 7" model, but it is worth going for the extra size to get a better picture. The quality is outstanding - very sharp even with 80s TV programmes on DVD. The colours are punchy and crisp and overall I am very impressed with the visuals.
Althought it is region 2, it plays my region 4 DVDs fine, but cannot play Region 1 NTSC disks.
Two earphone jacks is great so you can watch a movie on a plane or train with others.
The detachable battery is slim and means when using the unit through the plug without a battery, it is nice and slimline.
I think it is better than any of the Phillips, Toshiba and other models I viewed.
Super picture quality September 10, 2008 61 out of 61 found this review helpful
Picture quality is excellent, far better than I expected for a unit of this size. Picture is sharp with vivid colours. Recent BBC wildlife DVDs come into their own! Sound quality is OK from the internal speaker, but a little 'tinny'. Much better through a decent set of headphones. Unit is well built with good quality switches etc that should last. Battery charges faster than the spec. and lasts about 6 hours as per the spec. Amazon recommend that you you purchase a case with this unit. Don't as one is supplied! It is not listed but there is one in the box. However, there is no in car installation kit as listed by Amazon. This doesn't bother me, but may be important to some. Overall a super unit. The only let down is the slightly disappointing sound quality from the internal speaker.
